Jo as chandramuki

Chandramukhi
Director - P VasuCast - Rajinikant, Prabhu, Jothika, Nayanthara, Shiela, Nasser, Vadivelu, Avinash, Sonu, Malavika,Vinaya Prasad
Various questions pop up in the mind as one enters the theatre. Is it a role suited for the Superstar and how would he look in this film? For, 'Baba' had given us an unpleasant jolt in more ways than one! Again, with claims and denials doing the rounds, is 'Chandramukhi' a rehash of a Malayalam film? And if it is, how does the adaptation and the changes fit in? And, finally, does Jothika rise to the demands of the role in the crucial final scene?
A REHASH?
Yes, 'Chandramukhi' undoubtedly is a rehash of the Fazil-directed 'Manichitrathaazhu'. Whatever the variations brought in, the backbone of the film is its strong storyline and script, making it a different and an interesting psychological thriller. Vasu, while keeping most of the original scenes in tact, had brought in slight variations in the Kannada version which he'd directed earlier, and that's the one we get to see in Tamil.

THE ADAPTATION
The Malayalam version was a classy affair, subtle in its treatment and approach. Vasu has brought in the variations keeping the sensibilities of the Tamil audience in mind, and for the fans of the hero who like to see him in larger-than-life roles. The comedy is grosser and the closing scenes more melodramatic. And as an additional bonus, we also get to see an entire episode of another Malayalam film (Mohanlal-Manju Warrier starrer 'Aaraam Thamburaan') weaved into the portion where Nayanthara is depicted as the servant's daughter, teaches music to the kids and has an altercation with Rajini because of it.
But what one can't deny is that Vasu has blended all these ingredients, the borrowed and his own, the subtle and the gross, all into a coherent whole, in a fairly neatly packaged entertainer, albeit with a sensibility different from the original. The camera and the music have been used to add tempo to the narration and create an eerie, suspense-filled ambience of the palatial bungalow, the legendary story connected to it, and the strange happenings.
JOTHIKA and others
Jothika gets her share of action towards the end, after playing the passive wife of Prabhu for the most part. And with the total focus on her, it's to the actress' credit that she rises to the demands of the character, her eyes flashing hatred and vengeance. There's Prabhu (the film's producer) fitting in suitably well as Senthil, shocked by his wife's strange behaviour. But one does feel sorry for the actor, who in both his recent releases ('Vasoolraja...' and 'Chandramukhi', both remakes) is short-changed and gets less to do than the actors who'd played them in the original! Yet another casualty of the star-syndrome! Nayanthara, with her pretty soft looks, is adequate in the few scenes she gets, and also gets to romance the Superstar.
THE SUPERSTAR
And, finally, about the Superstar. The film opens with a dramatic introduction of Rajinikant fighting some ruffians. The actor looks trim and good here. Playing Saravanan, a US-trained psychiatrist who comes to visit his friend and his wife Ganga, and gets caught up in their problems. Rajini s in his elements, the role giving him enough scope to indulge in comedy, fights, some serious scenes and some wicked humour towards the end, when he tauntingly provokes Chandramukhi with his 'laka laka laka' refrain (the Superstar is more interesting to watch here than in the earlier scenes).
We get to see sparks of the Rajinikanth of earlier films, and feel he can still deliver if given the right roles. But what is distracting is the jarring make-up, making him stand out like a mime-player, from the rest of the cast. And as the narration proceeds, the 'good-look' of the opening scene goes missing, the make-up only highlighting the deficiencies. There's only that much of correction and camouflage that make-up can do! And what it can't is turn the clock backwards.
And if the Superstar understands that, he can concentrate less on his make-up and more on doing challenging, suitable roles. For, there's no doubt that he's still a force to reckon with, and his charisma is still intact.

Chandramuki

When you watch a movie by super star’s, the mood set is totally different, 3 hours of entertainment is assured. For a common man like me Chandramuki fulfilled this aspect very well. It seems this movie was adapted from a Malayalam script, I have never seen the Malayalam version and I am sure I will not see it because CM worked out better to my taste of entertainment. The best parts of the movie I liked was “லகலகலகலகா” Man, Rajinee with the tyrant king’s disguise, the way he walks and his mannerism are out of the world, In fact really a cool dude looking villain. I was stunned by the expressions he produced during this episode, the sudden move to chop the head of the illicit lover of Chandramuki is something to watch, CG works well. In my opinion it simply rocks. I kept saying [லகலகலகலகா]“lagalagalga” rest of the weekend. Along with my fellow Rajinee fans, I clapped every time when I heard the word Super! And I did not miss my chance to scold Nazer with bad words when he dares and slaps Rajinee. Songs, Every song in the movie has been done well with most of Rajinee elements well in place. Devuda Devuda is a pumping song that is going to be heard for some time. I liked the duet between Rajinee and Nayanthara, in which an olive green costume of Rajnee and Nayanthara Wow! who does their wardrobe. Very smart looking costumes and color combinations. Thanks to the director for every color combination on the screen they were really pleasing. In spite of poor singing by Asha, I liked this song which was shot around out skirts of Istanbul. Vadivelu rock with spontaneous humor and slap sticks. When the “ghost hunter” renders some so called cast which contains the word Holi, Vadivelu reacts to this quite well. The scenes where Rajinee and Vadivelu meets is simply a laugh riot however at times it goes towards double meaning affair. Super Star has fans at different Age range I wish he could avoided those double talks.Jothika, her big round set of “eyes” helps her to produce some immense expressions, good work by P.Vasu to get those expressions. She took over the climax, some of our friends in the next few rows where commenting and making fun on this climax, fine! They are here to have fun, but soon the intensity created by Jothika shut them down and they closed all their natural openings, they were seen engrossed in the movie. Prabhu’s crying scene deserves an edit, everyone laughed for this, which includes the projector operator also; mind it operator was an American. The low point in the Malayalam script was when Rajnee explains the full plot, it was more like Sherlock Holmes talking about a plot, it works for Malayalam movie, because they don’t care much for Screen Visuals. In Tamil we care, I wish they had used more action visuals to explain it. However they seemed to have tried a new method on the Flash backs, like Rajnee walking around the actual flashback screen, something like Chris Burmen & co walking and explaining NFL plays on ESPN.Do you know that there were only 2 fights in the movie, I felt they could have removed it fully, however there is no Director yet who would be bold enough to give a Rajinee movie without a fight. Few complained to me that Saravanan was way behind Annamalai or BadhSha in mannerisms and actions. But I feel after a 30 years of SPM formulae I think Rajinee has given a great movie spun around a nice little story for his fans. This contains every element of entertainment. And my technical “nitpicks” and “expectations” on the sound quality, yes DTS has been used properly with background music and sound effects traveling around you. Some elites told me Chandramuki was better than Baba. Let me tell you a bold truth, I did like BABA the movie, it had the entertainment values that I look for from Rajinee. Also pssst BABA was any day better than Alavandhan right!.

Robo Aish

Aishwarya Rai who will be featuring for the first time as Rajinikanth’s love interest in the Shankar directed Robot has clinched the deal for a massive paycheck. Robot which is budgeted for Rs 130 crores will be made simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and is said to go on floors in April’08. When the film was announced, numerous speculations
were doing the rounds as regards Rajini’s heroine. Trisha, Shriya, and Nayanthara were said to be in the fray but Shankar had managed to rope in former Miss World for this prestigious project. It has also been reported that Ms Rai has been booked for a jaw dropping 6 crores for the film. She is currently demanding 2 crores in Bollywood and 4 crores in Hollywood. After the Robot deal, Aishwarya Rai becomes the highest paid actor in the entire Indian film industry.

Robot

She was in modeling, become miss world, big name in Bollywood, acted in Hollywood movies, got a big seat in Heinz Film festival, become bahu of Big B’s family… list goes on. She has a big name in the cinema industries across the world. But We have some thing to say here.. SHE WAS DEBUTED IN KOLYWOOD. It is we who introduced her to the Cinema Industry in the movie “Iruvar”. Again she is back here for the Sci-Fi Big Movie “ROBO”. She is going to work with Shankar and Rajini in ROBO.
Rajini wanted Aishwarya Rai for “Neelambari” role in Padayappa. It did not happen. Shankar tried to get her for “ TamizhSelvi” role in Sivaji. It did not happen. She has signed for Shankar – Rajini movie.
Yes.. Aishwarya is lucky…!
Vaanga Aish Vaanga

Robo

In the mean time he is busy in completing sequence song of Sultan - The Warrior an animation flick made by his daughter Soundarya. The shooting of Sultan – The Warrior is on at Hyderabad and would be wrapped up right on time for the actor to pack up to the US. The actor was spotted in Tirupathi on Sunday where he offered prayers for his Kuselan and his upcomming movies.
Interestingly, Aishwarya who is signed opposite to Rajinikanth in Robot is on the unforgettable world tour and is currently in the US. This might be convinient for director Shankar to shoot any scenes with Rajini and Ash in the US.

The saying “Anything is possible” applies to only one actor in India - Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. With his ultra-modern yet suave fashion sense and avant-garde outlook that is unique to each film, Rajini, as he is fondly called, returns with a bang in his latest flick Sivaji - The Boss. Rajini in blonde wigs, Bob Marley plats, re-bonded hair and even no hair, gave me chills down the spine. Would it end up being another Baba, the only movie of the superstar which flopped, I wondered.

Before anyone watching Sivaji, they are given a 45 seconds peek into Rajini’s next 3D Animation Movie “Sultan - The Warrior“, Rajini playing a mythological hero vanquishing all evil in typical Rajini style. Sivaji - The Boss kicked off with Sivaji (Rajini, although his real name is Sivaji Rao) behind bars for illegal money laundering activities. When one of the inmates asks Sivaji whether he ended up in jail because of murder, corruption or circulating obscene clips via MMS and the Internet, it showed that director Shankar and dialogue-writer Sujatha were in-tune with the recent criminal happenings in India. With Rajini denying all that and simply saying, “I did a good deed, that’s why I’m in jail,” the movie goes into a flashback.

Sivaji returns to his homeland for good after making it big as a software engineer in the USA. His aim is to build a hospital and university for the poor without charging them a single cent for treatment and fees.

Adhi Sayshen (Suman) is a conniving businessman who also has similar business interests and upon hearing Sivaji’s noble cause, decides to do all he can to prevent Sivaji from realizing it, even to the extent of toppling the ruling Government who backed Sivaji’s plan, and placing his cronies in office.

At one point, Sivaji loses everything he owns and Adhi will ask him to beg, saying that begging is the national job of India. The one rupee coin that Adhi places on Sivaji’s palm gives the latter the. Means to rise again like a phoenix and bring Adhi down. Now come the Second half, starting with Rajini tossing the coin and starting his revenge, from here the Movie goes like a Jet flight. Lots of humorous scenes and extraordinary fights in the Second half adds more feathers to the Success hat. The Most fantastic part of the Movie is the last 15 minutes where our Super Star turns from Sivaji to MGR, I wish MGR could have introduced much earlier. Movie ends with our Super Star’s Victory over villain as well as in the movie.

Rajini, as Sivaji, is a delight to watch. From his stylish repertoire of costumes and get-ups, thanks to Bollywood fashion designer Manish Malhotra, to his superb comedic timing and a charismatic screen presence, Rajini completely steals the limelight. Even gorgeous co-stars like leading Iady Shriya Saran and a very slim Nayantara, who makes a cameo appearance for a song, could not match the superstar’s on-screen persona. Shriya, apart from a few dance scenes, didn’t really have much to do, which is not uncommon in a Rajini movie.

Vivek’s comedy tracks were hilarious, as always, but I felt many other household names in the Tamil movie world namely Manivannan, Raghuvaran, Vadivukarasi and more were wasted in miniscule roles. Especially Raghuvaran who played the ultimate Tamil film villain in many Rajini movies like Baasha and Arunachalam. Suman, hmmm, really didn’t fit the bill as the conniving villain. Raghuvaran would have done wonders to the role.

As for the music, AR Rahman has once again a hit in his hands. The melodious Sahana is a treat to the ears, while the more hip-hap-rap based Oru Koodai will click with youths.

Sivaji often tests the logic of audience especially when he beats up over 20 muscular men at one go with his smaller frame. Nevertheless, Sivaji is a must-watch film for it is a complete entertainer. Just Leave Your Logic Outside and Feel Rajini’s Magic on-screen. Really, watch it for Rajini and also Shriya…I have watched 4 times in the theatre….The movie is worth to be watched only in theatre and not in VCD, DVD or any other form of media…Sivaji worth watching again and one of the BOSS (Best of Super Star) !

The Popular Punch dialogue delivered by Rajinikanth in the movie :-
“Peera Kettala Summa Adaradhilla !” “As soon as you hear my name you will feel the tremors”
“Kanna panninga dhaan kootama varum, singam single-a dhaan varum” - “Only pigs come in a gang, lion comes alone”
” Yarrrruu . ahhh Morruu
” Koun Heh? ” Podaa Keneee
” Valge Valamudam Valghe Paaathi Valemuden

The Popular Punch dialogue delivered by Vivek in the movie :-

“Boss” - “Bachelor of Social Service”
“Sixkku appuram seven da, Sivajikku appuram yevenda” - “After six there is seven, after Sivaji there is no one.”
“Kuzhanthaigal paakurathu pogo, sivajikita vendaam go go”
“Chittoor Thaandina Kaatpaadi, Sivajiya cheendinaa Dead Body!” - “If you cross Chittoor you will reach Kaatpaadi, If you tease Sivaji you will become a Deadbody!”

There is less chance to know that Rajini and Illayaraja were friends. Raja and Rajini were good friends; Maestro Raja had an idea about producing a movie from the last year. Rajini and Raja united in a film as a actor and Music director. Raja looks to produce a film for Rajini. But after the film Sivaji Super star Rajinikanth latest project may be with Illayaraja. They both together met in a place and were thinking about their next project. This time Illayaraja will be as a producer and superstar as an actor. After they met together the project of the new film is under consideration.
